HOW DO I GET INVOLVED WITH THE FUGOII PROJECT?
The FUGO II is ready to fly. We have a pilot and we have a message of peace and non-proliferation. Now is the time to show your support.
Please help contribute to the manufacturing cost of the FUGO. This project can succeed only if thousands of people are willing to give a small amount of support. Skip one cup of coffee this week, and send that money to the FUGO II. That is all it takes. Then in October of next year, sit back and watch the historic flight of a bomb for peace, knowing that you helped make it happen. Then, in an act of ritualistic disarmament, the FUGO II will be destroyed (literally) after only a few flights.

Why is it called FUGO II ? Read on for more about the idea:
The fugo program was a low-tech incendiary bombing campaign that the Japanese used to try and wreak havoc over the Western US during WWII. Over 9,000 small bombs tied to weather balloons were sent into the jet stream above Japan. The wind, would then carry the bombs toward the western US. Apparently, approximately 300 of these actually made it here and caused reported damage, starting forest fires, power outages, and causing a few deaths. Information on the fugo program was entirely supressed by the military so as not to induce widespread panic. Remarkably, one small fugo hit a powerline in the state of WA that was actively feeding a reactor being used to enrich the Plutonium that went into the Fat Man we dropped on Japan. As far as my research goes, that single balloon was responsible for a 3-day shut down of the U.S. Nuclear weapons program. (don't cite me, please look for one of several books on the subject).
Such a beautiful and simple irony. A balloon, floating randomly and yielding with the breath of the wind, can give pause to the most destructive force ever created by man. It is almost as though nature itself were asking us to stop in our efforts. Possibly, the incarnation of the FUGO II may give pause to those those who witness, bringing to light an important discussion of our continued role in weapons development, and how we choose to represent this role in our great state - outrage, embrace, pride, repulsion?
World's first passenger atomic bomb to fly in 2006 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta
Chad Person, an Albuquerque, NM based artist is seeking support for the development of the FUGO II hot air balloon. His hope is to create a synthesis of two of this city's most important histories - balloon aviation and atomic innovation.
It will be the world's first passenger atomic bomb; a sarcastic breakthrough in our administration's push to create so called more usable nuclear weapons. The FUGO II will be funded, flown , and later disarmed (destroyed) via unified public support. In a state economy heavily supported by the dual industries of Nuclear Weapons Development and Tourism, this project should be received with iconic vigor - much like a lady liberty for the land of enchantment.
THE FUGO II WILL FLY THIS YEAR WITH YOUR HELP!
The construction of the FUGO II is an attainable goal. We have a pilot on board, and an award winning balloon designer overseeing manufacture.
The FUGO II will rise above the crowd in New Mexico this year, casting its shadow over a land steeped in the history and future of atomic weaponry. Flying amidst a cadre of playful characters and popular advertisements, the FUGO II will serve as an anti-advertisement for the propogation of sanitized violence on a massive scale.
Together, we can make this balloon a reality, and in doing so get the attention of the entire world as we proudly demonstrate that we are a community of people interested in supporting peace and nonproliferation.
